The Power Of Jumping In

In Uncategorized by Todd Herzog

I have a confession to make.  I have put off writing this newsletter for a long time.  I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t feel I had something important enough to share, or if I was looking for the perfect words, or what.  I do know that I allowed various reasons to stop me from just jumping in and sharing with you.  It occurred to me that that’s exactly what I should write to you about.
There is a certain beauty to just jumping into something, even when you’re not sure that you’re entirely ready.  Take for example the story of Nachshon ben Aminidav.  Nachshon is the brother-in-law of Aaron, one of the high priests of the Israelites.  Not much is known about him until the Israelites arrive at the Red Sea with the Egyptians and their chariots hot on their trail.  The other tribes of Israel are arguing amongst themselves.  None want to be the first to enter the sea, but their options are rapidly disappearing.
Nachson takes it upon himself to start wading into the water.  The way that the story goes is that it is not until Nachson is submerged in the water over his nose and mouth that Moses is able to lift his staff and that the waters are parted, allowing the Israelites to pass through.  There is a powerful message in this story… and that is when it comes to following our life’s mission, we must be courageous in sticking to our commitment and overcome any obstacle that faces us.  For me, it also means that even when you don’t feel ready, just by taking action and jumping in (literally) you can create incredible results.  Or as the German writer Goethe once said, “Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.“
I wish each one of you the courage and commitment to do whatever feels like your contribution to the world.  Time is short and each one of us has a necessary role to play.  Speaking of roles to play, as many of you know, I put out a new recording a couple of months ago.  I am very proud of it and would like to share it more broadly with the world.  One of the ways I can do that is by getting reviews on iTunes.  I would like to offer a free t-shirt to the 3 best reviews that I receive.  If you have heard and enjoyed “Something To Believe In”, please take a moment right now to leave a comment on iTunes.  You can get a preview of the t-shirts here.
Thank you as always for your support and positive feedback.  I could not play my role without you.
In song,
